State Board of Education Raises Testing Standards

On Jan. 24, the Illinois State Board of Education voted to increase the cut-off score for elementary and middle school students taking the Illinois Standards Achievement Test in English language arts and math. State Superintendent of Education Christopher Koch calls the move "a significant step in changing how we measure a student's progress." The higher standards will help educators determine which students need more help and keep students on track for college or career-training programs, according to Koch.
