State BOE OKs New Teacher, Leader Evaluation Measures (04/03/14)

A new rule adopted by Georgia's State Board of Education establishes that all school systems and charter schools will implement the Georgia Department of Education's Teacher Keys Effectiveness System and Leader Keys Effectiveness System by the 2014-15 school year. The evaluation systems for teachers, assistant principals, and principals incorporate measures of achievement and student growth and will assign them one of four ratings levels. Ninety-nine percent of all public and charter districts and schools are in full or pilot implementation of the systems in the current school year. "Full implementation of the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System and Leader Keys Effectiveness System is an important step toward providing the best possible instruction for all of Georgia's students," says State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge. "During pilot implementation, we have received feedback from teachers and administrators that confirms that both systems will increase communication and collaboration among school staffs, and deepen educators' ability to prepare their students for the future."
