Ritz in City Touting Education Outreach
Fort Wayne Journal Gazette (IN) (08/21/13) Crothers, JulieIndiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz visited Fort Wayne on Aug. 21 and met with Allen County education leaders to drum up support for the Department of Education's new outreach division for school improvement. She said the goal of the outreach division is to bring together community organizations that serve students and focus on improving Indiana's schools. "Outreach is a very unique concept that has not been done in the state of Indiana, and I might say has not been done statewide in any state in the nation, so we're embarking on something new," Ritz said. The outreach involves taking a close look at school improvement, such as student safety, discipline, instruction, and parents' roles in education. Through this comprehensive approach, "we'll be able to see where schools are actually making growth," she explained. The State Department of Education already has set up several education service centers in the nine regions that will be tasked with reaching out to schools.
