Ritz Lists Goals for Indiana's Schools

At a public presentation at Saint Mary's College, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz said that information about how students are doing in school and about their needs does not travel when the students' families move and children have to switch schools more than once in a single year. "The more mobility, the greater the chance the student isn't going to get what they need at the next school," she said. Laying out a plan to drum up grassroots support to help these students, Ritz indicated that a plan should be put into place to offer accessible electronic information about individual students, which can be transferred with each child. She also said that the state would apply for a federal Race to the Top grant, which would provide money for early childhood education.
