Proposed Changes to Teacher Evaluation Procedures Unveiled
Pacific News Center (03/25/13) Brown, BetsyGuam's Department of Education (DOE) recently issued a draft policy to update the teacher evaluation process. The proposed evaluation system would include student academic growth, as well as teacher observation done by administrators. "Right now, the current teacher evaluation tool has about 17 different standards that we expect our teachers to meet and ... none of them include student academic growth. So I think what you'll see out of this is a tool that will help us really identify how our teachers, and administrators as well, are supporting our kids and ensuring that they get the gains that we [want to] see academically," says DOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez. He also indicates that the department will test the new standards in a small number of schools starting next year, with full implementation expected the year after. To read the full article, click here
