PARCC's Common Math Tests to Be Translated Into Spanish
Education Week (09/25/13) Maxwell, Lesli A.The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) will allow its common math assessments to be translated into Spanish and other languages needed by member states. Although a number of PARCC member states have laws and regulations prohibiting tests in languages other than English, eight member states are in need of a Spanish-language math assessment. Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island need a Spanish-language math assessment for grades 3-11, while Massachusetts needs one for high school only. New York, Colorado, Illinois, and Ohio requested assessments in additional languages as well, including Korean, Chinese, Haitian-Creole, and Russian. Despite interest from some states, PARCC does not plan to develop translated versions of its English/language arts tests.
