North Dakota Ushers in New Education Standards, Tests

School districts in North Dakota were told by the State Department of Public Instruction to begin planning for the 2015 implementation of the Common Core State Standards by July 1, 2013, if they had not done so already. Schools will have to be prepared for the more rigorous Common Core tests by spring 2015, and they can give students a field test in spring 2014 using the new online assessment. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler says scores likely will drop first under the new Common Core tests, but she expects them to return to normal shortly after. "The jump for new standards is going to leave students really needing to make up and learn what they were supposed to have learned and all this new stuff, too," she says.
