New Standardized Test in for 2014-2015
WPRI.com (Rhode Island) (03/25/13) Raia, Chris; Kennedy, MauraRhode Island Education Commissioner Deborah Gist says the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test, which could replace the NECAP exam in the 2014-15 school year as the state's standardized test, will prepare high school students for life after school. "We feel really good about these standards. They're a big improvement over the standard now and they are internationally benchmarked so we know we're not just aiming and looking at schools within Rhode Island, but we're focused globally on preparing students for the broader world," she says. The PARCC test will be administered to students in grades 3-11, and the results will be shared with 22 other states using the exam. All PARCC tests will be taken online on laptops. Gist is working with each school district to determine how many new computers they need and how to raise the necessary funds. To read the full article, click here
