Examiner.com (04/05/13) Burdett, GillianOn April 4, New York Education Commissioner John King Jr., described the new tests for English Language Arts (ELA) and math that students in grades 3-8 will take as challenging. He said the new assessments will require students to engage in deeper analysis of written texts and demonstrate a thorough understanding of math concepts. ELA tests will have longer passages, and students would be required to support arguments with textual evidence, while the math assessment will feature multistep problems with real-world applications that test the comprehension of fundamental math concepts. King said, "The results from these new assessments will give educators, parents, policymakers, and the public a more realistic picture of where students are on their path to being well-prepared for the world that awaits them after they graduate from high school."To read the full article, click here
