NYC's iZone Enlists Teachers to Evaluate Ed Tech Tools in the Classroom

After a competitive evaluation process, New York City School's Innovation Zone, or iZone, identified six ed tech companies that will have their products tested in iZone schools this fall by classroom teachers. The goal of the project is to create an evaluation framework for assessing education technology tools. Teachers involved in the project will have three months with the product and will then provide feedback. The iZone will share its findings and framework in hopes that it will assist district and schools with future ed tech adoption decisions.

The six companies are:

  • Wowzers: Online learning platform providing story-driven games and activities covering core math curriculum for students;
  • Motion Math: Suite of learning games fostering an intuitive sense of math in players;
  • LightSail: Tablet-based literacy tools provide standards-aligned texts, questions and dashboard;
  • BuzzMath: Middle school math problems with instant feedback, solutions and student data reports;
  • Edusight: Online gradebook for K-12 teachers;
  • OpenSchool: Assessment and assignment creation tool that develops ongoing student ePortfolios.
