KULR-8 TV (09/19/13) Benton, Kyle

On Sept. 18, Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau filed a No Child Left Behind law waiver with the federal government to further implement the Common Core State Standards. Juneau says that she wants students across the state to take the Smarter Balance test, which will provide teachers with a greater understanding of what areas students need to improve as they enter the next grade level. I followed up in July with a letter to them expressing my intent not to double test as well. We will be making application to not double test next year. Instead move to the Smarter Balance, all in, sort of testing scenario for this spring," she said. The Montana Board of Public Education voted to move forward with full implementation of the Common Core standards, and said they would submit the application by November. "Schools are now aligning their local curriculum so that students are learning more rigorous content in their classroom," Juneau said.
