Missouri Students Taking More Foreign Language, World History Classes
OzarksFirst.com (11/10/12)In October, the Missouri State Board of Education adopted a resolution in support of International Education Week to encourage schools to provide students with the knowledge they would need to succeed in an increasingly global society and its globally competitive economy. Missouri Education Commissioner Chris L. Nicastro said, "The ability to communicate effectively with people from other countries and develop a deeper understanding of other cultures has never been more important. International education helps prepare students for a world where global partnerships are common and economies are interconnected." She added the increasing number of students enrolling in foreign language and world history courses suggests that Missouri is on the right track. The resolution works well in conjunction with the primary goal of the Top 10 by 20 initiative, which is to prepare students for college, other post-secondary training, and a career.
