SurfKY.com (04/11/13) Blessing, Rebecca

The Kentucky Department of Education is among the state agencies and organizations to partner with the national nonprofit Hope Street Group to engage teachers in the implementation of the state's Professional Growth and Effectiveness System. Hope Street Group will roll out a Kentucky Teacher Fellowship program, and teachers selected to participate will receive training in policy and decision-making techniques, media interactions, editorial writing, knowledge sharing, and recruitment in order to share information with colleagues and solicit feedback on such issues as PGES and the Common Core State Standards. The organization also will institute a virtual policy platform for teachers to participate in online policy discussions and hold gatherings where teachers and state officials will be given information and best practices from across the country. State Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says, "We share a common commitment - to engage teachers at every level. The Hope Street Group's work in Kentucky will support and reinforce our strategic work around educator effectiveness. More effective teaching means improved student outcomes ensuring that all of our students graduate from high school college/career-ready."
