Kansas Considers Out-of-State Teacher Licenses
Wichita Eagle (KS) (07/10/13)The Kansas Department of Education is seeking a grant from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to study implementing CCSSO's 10 recommendations for improving the teaching profession, such as simplifying the licensing process for out-of-state teachers. The 2012 CCSSO report said, "Education policy needs to accommodate career changers and create flexibility that allows them to become an education professional without undue burdens." Kansas Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker says the state will not commit just yet to altering its licensing rules. She notes, "[The grant, if approved,] would give us the opportunity to study all 10 recommendations. Reciprocity is one of the recommendations but even with that, the study does not define the degree of reciprocity."
