Kan. School Board Approves New Science Standards
Associated Press (06/11/13) Hanna, JohnThe Kansas Board of Education has approved new multistate science standards for public schools. The standards will ensure students in K-12 engage in hands-on projects and experiments and that curriculum blends in material about engineering and technology. Lessons also will incorporate information on evolution and climate change, treating evolution as a well-established, core scientific concept. Kansas will use the standards to create annual statewide tests to determine how well schools are teaching them, though it could take up to four years to develop the tests and begin administering them, according to the State Department of Education.
