John King Promotes Common Core Standards to Business Leaders

Addressing the Rochester Business Alliance on May 23, New York Education Commissioner John King, Jr., said the local business community will benefit from the Common Core State Standards. He said, "We know that if we can get better college and career readiness in our K-12 system we can get better as a state in terms of economic development. How do we tackle the gap between our expectations in K-12 and the expectations of college and careers? If we can tackle that gap it can make a huge economic difference for our state and our country." King urged business leaders to advocate for the Common Core, support early childhood education, and partner with schools to ensure students are career-ready.
