Iowa Poll: Most Think Reforms Will Benefit Students
Des Moines Register (IA) (06/09/13) Stegmeir, MarySixty-one percent of Iowa residents who responded to a poll regarding education reforms passed recently by Gov. Terry Granstad believe the reforms will improve achievement to some degree. The initiatives include raising starting salaries and adding new leadership positions for teachers. The legislation marks "an important step for the state to become a world-class education system," said Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass, who said he was pleased with the poll's results. He added, however, that they are but one factor, along with maintaining tough academic standards and tailoring education to individual students, that will help the state succeed. "There aren't silver bullet approaches that work when raising student achievement," he said.
