Indiana Department of Education Releases ISTEP+ Scores

The Indiana Department of Education has released statewide ISTEP+ scores that show 79.5 percent of students passed the English/Language Arts portion of the test and 82.7 percent passed math, up from 79.4 percent for English/Language Arts and 81.2 percent for math last year. The percent of students passing both sections was 73.5. Among 8th grade students, 76.2 percent pass English and 81.2 percent passed math, up from 74.2 percent and 80.1 percent, respectively, in 2012. Statewide, 74.2 percent of 7th graders passed English and 80.2 percent passed math, compared to 76.3 percent and 79.0 percent, respectively, last year. Figures among 6th grade students were 77.7 percent for English and 84 percent for math, compared to 78.7 percent and 83 percent, respectively, in 2012; and 5th grade students passing English rose from 78.4 percent in 2012 to 79.2 percent and those passing math rose from 86.2 percent to 87 percent. Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says, "First, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Indiana students, parents, educators, administrators, and the employees of the Department of Education for their efforts during the administration of this test.
