Illinois Approved for No Child Left Behind Waiver

Illinois has been granted a waiver from portions of the No Child Left Behind law, which will give it more flexibility in setting education standards and allow it to look beyond test scores in determining whether schools are succeeding or failing. Waivers were granted to more than 40 states and the District of Columbia. State Superintendent of Education Dr. Christopher Koch says the waiver enables the state to collaborate with local districts when it comes to what is best for students.
