Guidelines Aim to Improve Teacher Preparation
Danbury News Times (CT) (04/15/13) Lambeck, Linda Conner; FitzGerald, EileenThe Connecticut Board of Education has adopted recommendations to create stronger teacher preparation programs. The 10-page report from the Education Preparation Advisory Council says the state's 21 public and private teacher preparation programs can be improved by strengthening admission requirements for teacher candidates, expanding clinical experiences for future teachers, enabling schools and colleges to collaborate to train future teachers, ensuring teacher candidates can teach the new national and state curriculum, and holding teacher-prep programs accountable for how well and how long graduates teach after securing jobs. State Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor says more work needs to be done, and the council will stay together to possibly conduct research as the process moves forward.
