Mille Lacs County Times (MN) (01/22/13) Lestrud, HowardOn Jan. 22, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton released his 2014-15 budget, which includes additional funding for education for every year that he is governor. State Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius and Minnesota Office of Higher Education Director Larry Pogemiller both commented that the governor's newly framed budget could be the largest dollar increase for education in the history of the state. Cassellius applauded the major investments the budget makes in early education scholarships, saying that early learning is the key to being successful beyond kindergarten and in post-secondary education. She is optimistic that the Minnesota Legislature will see the value of the proposed budget and the worthwhile nature of the investment in education. She says, "It focuses on all kids; these increases are significant in getting kids ready for school and in making sure that all kids cross the finish line."
