Governor Malloy Announces $10 Million Technology Grant for Schools

HamletHub -Ridgefield (07/22/13) Malloy, Dannel

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and State Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor have announced a $10 million competitive technology grant for Connecticut school districts. The grant is designed to provide local districts with the critical assistance they need to bring more computers into classrooms and increase Internet bandwidth capability as the Common Core State Standards and the computer-based Smarter Balanced Assessments are rolled out during the 2014-15 school year. "One of our most important endeavors is to graduate our students college- and career-ready so that they are positioned for success in life. To that end, local districts have been working to align classroom instruction to the Common Core State Standards and preparing for the assessments that accompany them. Every district is at a different stage in the process, but this grant will help districts achieve technological readiness in the last year before full statewide implementation," Pryor said. All school districts interested in applying must do so through the competitive request for proposals process by Aug. 12, and awards will be dependent on the applicant's ability to meet the submission requirements. Any funding received must be used for purchasing new computing devices, inter-school bandwidth, or inter-district bandwidth.
