KSCB Radio News (08/26/2013)Kansas has rolled out the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program at 25 high schools in an effort to boost graduation rates and academic achievement to ensure students are successful in school and the workplace. Communities in Schools of Kansas has teamed up with the Kansas State Department of Education and State Department for Children and Families (DCF) to administer the program, with a DCF Temporary Aid for Needy Families grant to provide much of the funding. State Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker says, "We really see JAG-Kansas as a way to decrease our dropout rate. While we have one of the highest graduation rates in the United States, we need to identify ways to keep students engaged, to give them purpose. JAG-Kansas will help us serve our students and help even more Kansas students graduate from high school and prepare for careers." JAG has served over 800,000 students in 33 states in its 32-year history.
