Georgia and ETS Partner to Assess the Knowledge and Skills of GA Educators

By Jason Baran

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) has selected the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to develop and administer the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators® (GACE®) to assess the knowledge and skills of prospective Georgia public school educators.

According to ETS they will develop an innovative, research-based, online testing program that provides evidence of entry-level teacher practice, evolving as new technologies become available. The GACE program will consist of an array of new assessments that are aligned to all Georgia standards as well as the Common Core State Standards. Specifically, ETS is developing specifications and forms for 90 test titles including four new performance-based offerings in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Leadership, Instructional Technology and Educational Leadership.

In addition to the assessments, ETS is building new test preparation materials, including the development and delivery of full-length, online, interactive practice tests. Other enhancements include a "ready-to-test" eligibility system, improved customer service including Live Chat, a redesigned website that leverages usability testing, and faculty workshops that will help program providers prepare their candidates.
