Free ACT Testing Encourages Students to Seek Higher Education

The Montana Office of Public Instruction reported that more than 9,000 public school juniors took the ACT test last spring, an increase of 3,000 students over the previous year. The increase follows a partnership between the department and the Commissioner of Higher Education to provide free ACT testing through a seven-year, $28 million federal grant. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau says the grant will cover ACT test fees for the next five years. She says, "I think as this trend continues, and more and more students begin to take the ACT and the Universal ACT For All program gets kicked off, we'll see a lot more college-going rates for our state which is pretty exciting."
