Fernandez Works to Establish Education Foundation

Pacific Daily News (03/05/2013) Aoki, DanceAt a March 4 meeting of the Rotary Club of Northern Guam, Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez discussed his plans to establish an education foundation that would offset a shortage in local government funding by allowing businesses and individuals to make donations to the school system. The foundation would be set up as an independent nonprofit. "What we're trying to do is encourage more participation by the private sector, not just from a financial perspective, we want them more engaged in what we're doing and be active partners," said Fernandez. "We think there is much more that we can accomplish, not only in them just supporting one village school, but having them engaged in the bigger system issues."
