FCC E-rate Modernization Update

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)'s managing director, Jon Wilkins, posted an update on E-rate modernization on the FCC blog in advance of the expected December order. The draft order is currently with the Commissioners for review and proposes a full review of the E-rate program, closing the Wi-Fi gap, and an increase of $1.5 billion to the funding cap. The FCC blog post includes a fact sheet that reviews the key points in Chairman Wheeler's plan as well as a summary of the data collected around identifying the high-speed internet connectivity gap across the country.
