FCC Adopts Net Neutrality Rules

The FCC adopted net neutrality rules last week to keep U.S. broadband networks 'fast, fair, and open'. The rules have the support of both education and library officials and the main provisions of the rules:

  • Reclassify "broadband Internet access service" as a telecommunications service under Title II.
  • Asserts "bright line" rules that ban blocking or throttling of legal content, applications and services; and paid prioritization of some Internet traffic over other traffic.
  • Enhance transparency rules regarding network management and practices.
  • Distinguishes between the public and private networks.
