Every Student Succeeds Act

CCSSO continues to develop and implement supports for states as they transition into full implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the federal law that replaces No Child Left Behind. CCSSO's networks are organizing meetings and activities to help states understand the new law and take advantage of the new flexibilities if offers to states. CCSSO's initial areas of policy focus include:

  • Accountability
  • Assessment
  • Federal funds
  • Non-academic indicators
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Innovative assessment pilots
  • School improvement
  • English Learners
  • Data collection and reporting
  • Educator Workforce

CCSSO is communicating with key stakeholders, such as the U.S. Department of Education and national partner groups, to make sure all states have the tools and resources they need in transitioning to this new law, which provides additional state flexibility and authority.

Also, CCSSO has added a new ESSA webpage to house the resources and materials CCSSO is providing to states.
