Education Department Preps Media, Parents on New Standards

WFPL News (09/21/12) Katayama, DevinThe Kentucky Department of Education plans to release new accountability data in October, which will simplify accountability by assigning each district and school a score based on five main data sets. Achievement gaps, graduation rates, test scores, growth, and new college-and-career ready standards will be used to generate the scores, which will determine whether a district or school is "distinguished," "proficient," or "needs improvement." "We have simplified the system so that it's on a scale that everyone is familiar with, 0 to 100," says Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday. "Then we will rank order every school and every district in Kentucky and you will see a percentile rank." For more information on the Unbridled Learning system, click here.
