Department of Education Reports Continuing Enrollment in Course Choice Pilot

New Orleans Times-Picayune (07/02/13) Tan, Sarah

The Louisiana Education Department says enrollment in its Course Choice mini-voucher program has grown to 1,500 students, using about 75 percent of the $2 million allotted to fund the program. Enrollment will be open until all of the money is used to fund online courses that students sign up to take. The program allows students to take Advanced Placement, foreign language, and career courses not offered at their local schools through online providers. The courses are paid for by the program for students attending C- or D-rated schools or if their school does not offer the course. "This continued demand for choice is a clear sign that Louisiana families want options," State Superintendent John White says. Students have six more weeks to register for the program, and if the program reaches capacity, additional enrollees will be placed on a waiting list.
