Common Core State Standards Headed for Louisiana

KNOE.com (02/26/13)

The Louisiana Department of Education has launched the interactive online Classroom Support Toolbox on Louisianabelieves.com to help school districts and educators prepare for the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Resources in the toolbox include sample year-long curriculum plans, instructional videos, guidance on setting student achievement goals, assessment guides, and sample assessment questions. Moreover, the creation of Louisiana Teacher Leaders -- a group of 2,000 teachers, principals, and district staff from across the state -- ensures the toolbox content incorporates feedback from educators. "We have to support our teachers in making this shift. The Classroom Support Toolbox was created by listening to teachers and by working with them to create an online resource that will support, not dictate, their practice," says State Superintendent John White. "In the past, when we raised the bar, we told teachers how exactly to do it. The toolbox reflects a shift. It gives teachers resources but does not try to do the thinking for them."
