California Wins $10.8-Million Federal Grant to Pay AP Test Fees

California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson says the U.S. Department of Education approved the state's full grant request of $10.8 million to help close to 130,000 high school students pay for Advanced Placement and other college-level exams. These low-income students will need to pay only $5 of the fees for AP and International Baccalaureate exams. According to Torlakson, "Every student in California deserves a world class education, and students who work hard and earn the right to take these advanced tests should never find themselves limited by the fees. With this grant, we can remove one more obstacle and open one more door for some of the students who need it most."
