CCSSO Leader on Title I, Waivers, Common Core Tests
Education Week (03/19/13) Ujifusa, AndrewDuring a recent legislative conference, Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Executive Director Chris Minnich said the group will make a long-term argument about the value of investments in public schools and that state education leaders will not panic over budgetary issues tied to sequestration. The long-term policy statement will stress priorities like Title I schools for low-income students and the new national Common Core State Standards assessments. CCSSO supports the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), and state education leaders are hopeful they can use the temporary waivers from No Child Left Behind as a basis for a newly structured ESEA, said Minnich.
