On June 14-17, 2012, representatives from CCSSO's Innovation Lab Network traveled to Helsinki, Finland, to join delegations from around the world in the Global Education Leaders Program (GELP).  There, they explored, discussed, and learned from each other's transformational journeys toward 21st century education.

In addition to speakers including Aulis Pitkala, Director General, Finnish National Board of Education, Ramji Raghavan, Chair, Agastya International Foundation, and several  Finnish school principals, each jurisdiction hosted a 90-minute workshop wherein participants discussed emerging opportunities and collaboratively problem-solved key challenges faced by their respective education systems.  CCSSO's Innovation Lab Network discussed its need for a research and evaluation framework to help it understand the impact of ILN efforts on student outcomes and systems design.   Workshop participants provided feedback on the current ILN research framework and offered insights gained from efforts within their own jurisdictions.

Participating GELP jurisdictions included Australia, Brazil, British Columbia, Chaoyang (Beijing) China, Finland, India, New York City iZone, New Zealand, South Korea, Victoria, and the Innovation Lab Network.

GELP meets twice annually and is led and coordinated by Innovation Unit, based in the United Kingdom.  GELP is sponsored and funded by Cisco, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ellen Koshland Family Fund and Promethean.
