Annual Horizon Report Outlines Next Five Years in Ed Tech

The New Media Consortium (NMC) and the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) released their annual NMC Horizon 2015 K-12 report at the ISTE conference last week. The report incorporates input from 56 education and technology experts from 22 countries. The findings reflect on the current status of education technology and identifies trends, challenges, and developments that experts project will affect the next five years in education technology.

The report highlights the following issue areas: 

Trends (short and long): deeper learning, rethinking traditions (how we teach, what we teach, where we teach), collaborations (student-centered), blended learning 

Challenges: authentic learning, professional development (and the incorporation of technology), personalized learning & (identifying) teacher's role, scalability 

Developments in ed tech: BYOD/Maker movement, 3-D printing, adaptive learning, badges & wearables
