Alaska Joins Student Assessment Consortium

Alaska has joined the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, says the State Department of Education and Early Development. The state-led consortium will create assessments for grades 3-8 and grade 11 by the 2014-15 school year, along with formative assessments to be used throughout the school year to prepare students for the tests. State Education Commissioner Mike Hanley says, "The Smarter Balanced assessment will allow us to compare our students more closely with those around the country and confirm the rigor of Alaska's standards compared to the Common Core."
