Advances Announced for the State's Scholarship Program

KNOE.com (05/01/13)

The Louisiana Department of Education reports that it has matched close to 8,000 students with the schools of their choice through the Louisiana Scholarship Program, with the number of scholarships offered up almost 3,000 over last year. The number of families seeking to participate in the program rose to 12,000 this spring from around 10,000 last year. The program saved taxpayers $18 million this year alone. State Superintendent John White says, "Every family deserves the chance to send their child to the school of their choice. Over the next weeks and months, the department will continue to work with participating schools and families to ensure as many students as possible are placed in their preferred school and that families are empowered with the ability to choose where their child is educated." A second round of the application process is being held due to increased interest in the program, with applications accepted from May 6-24 and results announced the week of June 10.
