6 Georgia Schools to Begin Dual-Language Programs
Associated Press (04/20/13)Six elementary schools in Georgia have been awarded $15,000 in start-up grants to support dual-language immersion programs next year, and State Superintendent of Schools John Barge says the state has set a goal of having 20 dual-immersion language programs by 2020. The goal of the program is to ensure students are multilingual, which would improve their prospects in the global economy. Two middle schools in Atlanta will participate in a Spanish-language immersion program, three schools in DeKalb County will participate in programs to learn German or French, and an elementary school in Henry County will begin a Chinese-language program.
