61 Finalists Announced for Race to the Top District Competition
By Abby HexterThe U.S. Department of Education announced that 61 applications have been selected as finalists for the $400 million Race to the Top-District (RTT-D) competition.
The 61 finalists represent more than 200 school districts nationwide. 372 applications for RTT-D grants were received since the announcement of the competition earlier this year. RTT-D incentivizes districts to develop and implement plans to personalize education for students, and it provides school leaders and teachers with tools to better support students and meet their needs.
Before the end of 2012, USED expects to select 15-25 finalists for four-year awards that will range from $5 million to $40 million, depending on the population of students served through the plan.
