47 SC Schools to Pilot Teacher Evaluation System
Associated Press (07/15/13) Adcox, SeannaIn South Carolina, 47 schools in 14 districts will pilot the performance-based teacher evaluation system proposed by State Superintendent of Education Mick Zais in the coming school year. A-F letter grades for teachers have been dropped from the pilot project, though Zais could include them next summer in a proposal for a statewide evaluation system. During the last school year, the plan was preliminarily tested in 22 schools needing performance-based evaluations to achieve federal grant requirements. Of the 47 schools testing the system during the 2013-14 school year, 14 have received school improvement grants. Zais says taking part in the pilot would enable superintendents to be involved in the decision-making process.
